Welcome to the
Imagin-action section. Here you'll find pictures that
capture the imaginary side of playing with playsets and toy
soldiers. There's only one reason these pictures exist..."Just
for the pure fun of it!" As a kid there was always a story line in
my mind as I made my set-ups. The figures weren't little lumps
of plastic...they were characters starring in the movies of my
mind. If I was fortunate enough to play with friends, it was
amazing how we would merge our imaginary story lines as we went
along. Though sometimes we would fight over whose guy got to
be Davy Crockett or Sgt. Saunders or Johnny Yuma, usually our
imaginations carried us right through the rough moments to the joy
of finishing the set-up...and then having the battle.
It's hard finding anyone to
play with these days. My son's moved on to Computer games and
other "cool" stuff. My wife and daughter think (rightly) that
I'm crazy. My Church friends try to accept me the way I am and
not force me to grow up...but they don't get it. (I'm always a
little nervous they'll try to cast the Playset demon out of me!)
Grown-ups just don't seem to enjoy getting down on their knees and
whipping little rubber erasers at plastic figures. So now I
sit at my computer adding special effects to the pictures of my
set-ups, making gunshot and explosion noises without realizing i'm
doing it...until my 17 year old daughter breaks out laughing which
forces me back to reality for a moment to see what's so funny...only
to find it's me! But when I post the pictures to the internet
and they connect with other afflicted souls out there in cyber
space...it's like sharing a good battle in the back yard with a
friend again.
Come on...let's
play!
