At different times growing up, I must have
had five Fort Apaches. I lived in California and playsets
were outdoors toys for me and "sets" didn't last long. The
playset boxes seldom lasted beyond unpacking. The figures
lasted until they were buried or run over by the lawn mower or
sacrificed in some molten ritual. My western
battles always included figures by many different makers. Marx
figures (always the leaders) fought against and along side MPC,
Payton, Britians and Timpo figures. There were usually Civil
War figures fighting next to Mexicans fighting next to cowboys and
frontiersmen. I still like to play that way, though now troops
from Classic and Dulcop and Reamsa and Conte and Barzo fight
alongside the Marx guys.
Below are some pictures of a recent battle that
was waged in my basement. At the heart of the set up was a
huge old Fort from the 60mm days which had shooting platforms on
every wall section and the nice six piece block houses. Two
Shoe box stables and a barracks building of my own design provide
living and work space for the occupants for the fort. The
Defenders consist of 18 mounted long coats, a few damaged flip flop
rebs, a group of union infantry and some cowboys and pioneers.
Marx Indian groups in just about every color
Marx made...and then some...are joined in the attack by a few Marx
Conversions and some members of the Dulcop, Airfix, BMC, Rubenstein
and Reamsa tribes.
